CIRO (TOM):
On Monday July 7 the presentation by Chiara Ferrari went into great depth on the well known thought: “Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.” There was considerable discussion by the entire group on this concept of the OPEN WORK.
The artist collects data, interprets them, and then does the presentation. Art as discussed this day was considered a very open ended endeavor. Examples were shared via Professora Ferrari’s excellent videos and PowerPoint presentations. Once the artist’s work is complete, the performer may present and the consumer of the art may experience it in various ways. W. Y. Tindall emphasized in his book on the literary symbol “there is no true meaning of a text.”
The most in depth example presented by Professoressa Ferrari was a series of short segments of the film Paris, Je T’Aime each produced by a different director. Each film segment depicted a different neighborhood of Paris with a series of complex relationships between Man and Woman.
