MATT:
Our trip to the town of Rieti began with a leisurely walk down the main drag, via Roma. As we made our way through the town with our friendly tour guide Rita, we stopped at many of the popular sites. First on our walk was the main Cathedral of Rieti, (…). As we walked through the church, Rita provided us with many fascinating stories that added to the overall majesty of the large edifice. After the Cathedral, we passed by the “belly-button” of Italy, essentially its geographical center. After many pictures, we proceeded to the underground passageways beneath the town of Rieti. Used by the Romans over 2,300 years ago, these passageways are rarely seen by foreigners and locals alike. With the help of our tour guide (who has helped develop some of these “passaggi sotterranei” for the public eye) we were allowed access to these extensive thoroughfares beneath the town. And, of course, at the end of our tour, we all got some gelato at a popular gelateria in Rieti. What would a tour of an Italian city be like if we didn’t finish with some gelato?
