RFID & COMPUTER VISION

MARISA:
Today Alessandro gave us a tutorial on how the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology works. At first glance I was really intimidated because everything looked so complicated, but after showing us how everything worked it was really cool and made a lot of sense. Basically the technology we had to work with is RFID, which is composed by a reader and a tag. The tag is a white piece of tape that has an antenna and computer chip inside. The reader connects to the computer through radio waves and reads the tag up to a certain distance. The tags are sending an identification number to the computer and then displays the content that are identified on that tag. It sounds complicated but is pretty cool. Another piece of technology that Alessandro showed us was these video cameras that trigger the movement of audio using the video that is streaming. So in this case, however much movement is going on in front of the camera corresponds to the audio that is being displayed. If there is no movement in front of the camera, then there is no audio movement. If there is lots of movement in front camera, then there is lots of audio movement. So this is the type of stuff we have to work with and it will be interesting to see how we use these tools to create our multimedia project.
